Answer : This picture was taken in the beautiful city of Ulsan, in South Korea.  I went to Ulsan to visit a friend of mine who lived there.  She had come to the US to study for a year, at which point I met her.  When I went to India, the flight stopped off to change planes in Incheon, so it seemed like a good idea to extend the layover and visit her.  In hindsight, I wish I had scheduled more time in Korea, as it was an incredible place to visit.  Ulsan probably would not have been on my radar if I didn’t know somebody there, but it is a great city.  If you decide to go to Korea, I hope you visit Ulsan.  There are a lot of great things to do there, and it is gorgeous!

This picture was taken in my own hometown of Seattle, in the Ballard neighborhood.  This is a railroad bridge that is no longer in use very close to the Ballard locks, where the salmon come to spawn every spring.

Answer : Rishikesh, Uttarkhand, India.  Rishikesh is a minor Indian pilgrimage site on the Ganges and is fairly important because it is fairly close to the source of the holy river.  The small town sits on both sides of the river and is quite a great place to look at.  There is a beautiful temple, and a ton of souvenir stands, though they were much more easy-going than most of the other touts I encountered in India.  Rishikish was once the home of an ashram run by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, which is where the Beatles stayed when they famously visited.  They found themselves very inspired in India, and wrote most of the songs off the “White Album” while at the ashram.

Even though I didn’t actually get any guesses on this one, I won’t leave you all hanging anymore.  This photo was taken just outside of a small town in China called Dazu in the Chongquing Prefecture.  In Dazu, on Bao Ding Shan (Bao Ding Mountain), there is a large collection of Buddha statues carved into the rock walls.  It is one of several sites near Dazu with similar rock carvings, and Bao Ding has the largest collection.  Just a short walk away from Bao Ding Shan, there is a small hill up to this beautiful temple shown in this photo.
